CKA Remote Desktop on Killercoda
Study CKS CKA CKAD scenarios in the LF Exam Interface
Linux Foundation Remote Desktop Exam UI
In 2022 the CKS CKA CKAD Exam UI changed from a Remote Terminal to a Remote Desktop (Ubuntu XFCE). Coming from OSX/Windows there will be changes in copy&paste. There is an article from me describing the new UI and the Linux Foundation released an update.
What is it about the Remote Desktop?
You can read more here but to mention some points:
- You need to open the K8s docs in the Remote Desktop’s Firefox, not your local browser
- Copy&Paste will be like normal on a Linux system, maybe different to your local OS
- You need to open the Terminal application in the Remote Desktop to run kubectl and access K8s clusters
- There will be lagging, accept it
Who is this for?
If you want to get used to the Exam Remote Desktop, then for most it’s probably enough to do this while using the simulators on killer.sh. But for some it might be a nice addition to also study more topics and scenarios in the Exam Remote Desktop on killercoda.com. But I would say that it’s not necessary!
Who can use it and for what?
The Remote Desktop is available for all Killercoda PLUS members and for the following scenarios:
- https://killercoda.com/killer-shell-cka
- https://killercoda.com/killer-shell-ckad
Differences to the real exam
There are still differences between the real Exam UI and the one used on killer.sh and killercoda.com, like:
- You’ll need to use the PSI Secure Browser to access the real exams whereas you can use Chrome/Firefox to access killer.sh and killercoda.com
- You can only access certain allowed URLs in the Remote Desktop’s Firefox of the real exams whereas there are no such restrictions in the simulators
- On killer.sh and killercoda.com you can switch back to a Remote Terminal, this isn’t possible in the real exams
